The EcoCirc electrically commuted spherical motor design offers many benefits over other pump styles. The Laing design operates on extremely low power input at a specified nominal voltage from 8 to 24 volts; the spherical permanent magnet eliminates impeller slippage which makes the Laing pump up to 40% more efficient than a standard induction motor. The motor has no shaft and therefore no shaft seal that is a wear point and potential leak path. Pump operation is virtually silent, with a low 35 db noise level. The brushless motor has a lifetime in excess of 50,000 hours when operated at nominal voltage and can be powered directly by solar panels, battery or other DC power sources. The unique screw ring design for this series of pumps allows for changing motors without disturbing the pump housing piping.
The principle of the spherical motor, which was invented by Laing, is fundamentally different from conventional canned motor pumps. The only moving part in a spherical motor is a hemispherical rotor/impeller unit, which sits on an ultra-hard, wear-resistant ceramic ball. There are no conventional shaft bearings or seals. This rules out, in effect, the possibility of play in the bearings and the increase in noise associated with it. These pumps are particularly robust and give exceptionally long service. The self-realigning bearing is lubricated and cooled by the media. Maintenance is not necessary under normal conditions and even after lengthy shutdown periods a reliable start-up is virtually guaranteed. The parts exposed to the fluid are completely corrosion resistant.
Integrated over-temperature Protection
The pump has an integrated over-temperature safety device that shuts the pumps electronics off when reaching the temperature limit of +203° F, as a complete shutdown of the pump may result in adverse effects on a circulating system. Prior to this, the electronics will reduce the pump speed in order to compensate for heat gain. However, if the temperature continues to rise (i.e. the fluid media is too hot), the pump will eventually turn off completely. After cooling, the pump will restart automatically.

Snap-out design of motor drive unit permits motor replacement without draining the pump’s fluid. No special tools required. The DC motor can easily be swapped with an AC motor.
